Behind Flavor File

Hi, I’m Mia Oku!

Mia Oku, creator of Mia’s Flavor File

Mia’s Flavor File began as a way for me to collect the meals my husband and I love, so I could easily return to them whenever I needed inspiration or forgot what I did the first time. Let’s be honest, sometimes a meal comes out amazing, and then you can’t remember a single thing you added!

Now, I’m excited to share those recipes and ideas with you. Whether you are brand new to cooking and need beginner-friendly guidance, or you are an experienced cook looking for fresh inspiration, welcome to my page.

Mia’s Flavor File will continue to grow as my husband and I try new meals, discover new flavors, and create memories in our home. Have an idea, a suggestion, or simply want to chat? Feel free to send me a message.

I’m so excited for the food journey we’ll be taking together. And remember, the secret ingredients are always love and Adobo 😉

What you need

  • 1 lb ground beef, 80/20
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • ½ packet Goya Sazón
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 6 Hawaiian slider buns
  • Sliced Swiss cheese
  • 2–3 eggs
  • Light mayonnaise
  • Optional grilled onions: ½ yellow onion, thinly sliced, plus 1 tsp butter or oil

Cooking timeline

  1. 0:00
    Mix + shape

Gently mix the beef, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, Sazón, onion powder, ginger, and black pepper. Form 6 slider patties.

  2. 0:06
    Grill the onions, optional

Heat 1 teaspoon butter or oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and cook for 6–8 minutes, stirring every minute or two, until soft with browned edges. Transfer to a plate.

  3. 0:08
    Cook the patties

Cook in a skillet over medium heat for 3–4 minutes on the first side. Flip, add a splash of water, cover, and cook another 3–4 minutes.

  4. 0:16
    Melt the cheese

Add Swiss cheese during the final minute and cover again until melted. Cook the beef to 160°F.

  5. 0:18
    Cook the eggs

Fry 2–3 eggs sunny-side up in a separate pan, then cut or divide them to fit the sliders.

  6. 0:24
    Toast

Toast the Hawaiian buns cut-side down in a skillet or oven, with optional butter.

  7. 0:28
    Assemble

Layer each bun with light mayo, a cheesy beef patty, runny egg, optional grilled onions, and the top bun.

Trust Me on This: That splash of water after the flip creates steam so the centers cook through while the patties stay juicy.
