Behind Flavor File

Hi, I’m Mia Oku!

Mia Oku, creator of Mia’s Flavor File

Mia’s Flavor File began as a way for me to collect the meals my husband and I love, so I could easily return to them whenever I needed inspiration or forgot what I did the first time. Let’s be honest, sometimes a meal comes out amazing, and then you can’t remember a single thing you added!

Now, I’m excited to share those recipes and ideas with you. Whether you are brand new to cooking and need beginner-friendly guidance, or you are an experienced cook looking for fresh inspiration, welcome to my page.

Mia’s Flavor File will continue to grow as my husband and I try new meals, discover new flavors, and create memories in our home. Have an idea, a suggestion, or simply want to chat? Feel free to send me a message.

I’m so excited for the food journey we’ll be taking together. And remember, the secret ingredients are always love and Adobo 😉

What you need

  • 4 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp Swiss Miss hot cocoa mix
  • ¼ tsp baking powder
  • Tiny pinch of salt
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp semi sweet chocolate chips

Cooking timeline

  1. 0:00
    Melt the Chocolate

In a microwave safe mug that holds at least 12 oz, add 1 tbsp butter and 1 tbsp semi sweet chocolate chips. Microwave for 15 seconds and stir until smooth. If needed, microwave for another 5 to 10 seconds.

  2. 0:01
    Add the Wet Ingredients

Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until combined.

  3. 0:02
    Add the Dry Ingredients

Add the flour, Swiss Miss hot cocoa mix, baking powder, and salt. Stir gently just until no dry flour remains. Do not overmix.

  4. 0:03
    Add the Chocolate Chips

Sprinkle the remaining 1 tbsp chocolate chips over the batter. Gently press a few into the center.

  5. 0:03
    Microwave

Microwave on high for about 60 seconds total. Start checking at 45 to 50 seconds and continue in short intervals if needed. The cake should look set but still soft and moist.

  6. 0:04
    Rest

Let the mug cake sit for 1 full minute before eating.

Trust Me on This: Start checking the cake around 45 to 50 seconds. A few extra seconds can make a big difference, so stop once the top is set but the center still looks soft and moist.
